AIDS(Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is the most advanced stage of HIV infection. It is a disease of the human immune system.  After initial infection , the HIV virus multiplies actively and, infects and kills the cells of the immune system.  This results in an individual with weakened immune system.

Primary Infection or Acute HIV infection

Once the virus enters the body, the illness in its primary stage is called Primary Infection or Acute HIV infection

The earlier symptoms  of AIDS is having flu or influenza like illness from days to weeks- This occurs within a month or two after the virus enters the body.  And many other infected individuals do not even develop symptoms until the disease reaches a serious stage.

The Symptoms of AIDS in the initial stage

Following initial infection,  the disease doesn’t progress in a similar fashion in all HIV infected individuals. Along with flu-like illnesses,complaints of fever, tiredness with headaches tagging along and enlarged lymph glands in the neck are common. Other earlier symptoms of AIDS that are to be looked for are -

•    Soreness in Muscles
•    Diarrhea
•    Short-term memory loss
•    Mouth, genital, or anal sores from herpes infections.

Symptoms overlooked

The symptoms of Primary HIV Infection are generally overlooked because of their mild nature. But, it is the initial days after infection when the virus spreads efficiently and is present in large counts in the blood stream. 
When left untreated, the HIV infection progresses to AIDS in about 10 years.
